Barcelona serious about signing U17 World Cup superstar – Fabrizio Romano

As Barcelona look to battle through the ongoing sporting crisis, the club may appear busier than thought, in the upcoming January transfer window.

There is a dire need to upgrade the depth of the team, especially in the creative midfield department, where the injuries of Pedri and Gavi have caused all sorts of problems.

Barcelona serious about Claudio Echeverri

To that end, Barcelona have set their sights on Claudio Echeverri, the Argentine whizkid plying his trade for River Plate.

According to Fabrizio Romano (h/t FCB World), Barcelona are quite serious about the prospect of signing Echeverri. A creative midfielder by trade, the player is rated quite highly within the Barça ranks.

With five competitive appearances for River Plate, Echeverri is making steady steps towards his big breakthrough and may soon earn a move to Europe. The player himself is keen on the idea of joining Barcelona.

At the age of just 17, Echeverri still has a long way to go but his impressive performances early on have caught the attention of top clubs, including Barcelona.

Obstacles for Barcelona

However, acquiring the services of Echeverri is proving to be difficult for Barcelona. That is because the club are not in a position to afford the player’s €25 million release clause.

The Catalans wanted to pay off the release clause through other means. But River Plate are not interested in that proposal, as of now.

To make things worse for Barça, the club may face competition from other top European giants. Chelsea and Manchester City are among the clubs interested in the services of the Argentine whizkid.

Barcelona, though, have been monitoring Echeverri for a while now and with the player interested in a Camp Nou move, it will be interesting to see how things transpire in the months to come.
