Barcelona director praises two stars after win vs Osasuna: “They gave more balance”
Following Barcelona’s 2-0 win over Osasuna in the Spanish Super Cup semi-final, the club’s sporting director Deco portrayed his thoughts, saying that the likes of Pedri and Joao Felix gave more balance to the team.
Pedri, who was deemed as a major doubt for the game, was introduced a minute after the hour mark alongside Felix and the duo changed the course of the game.
During the added minutes of the second half, Felix made a fast score counter and helped Lamine Yamal score the second goal of the match, which effectively won the tie for Barcelona.
The assist was quite crucial for Felix as the Portuguese seems to have lost his touch in recent times.
As for Pedri, it took him little to no time to assert his dominance on the field. Right after his introduction, the young midfielder energized the team and his contribution played a big part in the team winning 2-0.
“We wanted to win and be in the final and what we want is to win titles,” said Deco as quoted by Mundo Deportivo.
“We were better in the second half. The input of Joao and Pedri, with their game giving more balance and possession as we like, has led us to beat a team like Osasuna that has competed well and had chances.”
Should Felix start more?
Felix’s move to Barcelona has taken an unexpected turn despite a strong start to the season. It seems things haven’t panned out as well as everyone planned, and the Portuguese star is not in favour with Xavi anymore.
If this continues, it’s likely that Barcelona won’t sign him permanently in the summer.
Over the last few matches, Felix has lost his place in the first team and when asked if he should get more opportunities in the playing XI, Deco added:
“The manager decides. Joao Felix has been important in phases of the season, today once again but also Ferran and others in other games.”
“He came out with attitude and showed it. That is the most important thing,” he explained.
Meanwhile, looking ahead to the final, Deco said that he wants to see “the champion gene against Madrid that played a spectacular game and Atletico too. We get players back and it will be a nice final.”
