Bayer Leverkusen star on Barcelona radar will cost over 120 million euros

Florian Wirtz has been catching eyes and turning the heads of top clubs all over Europe in recent years.

A proficient attacking midfielder with a keen eye for goal and great physical attributes, Wirtz would be the ideal signing for any club looking for a long-term midfield prospect – and Barcelona have long since had him on the radar.

However, as with most of their transfer business, finances act as a major roadblock to any major moves.

The Catalans are first and foremost, studying the incorporation of Martin Zubimendi given their pressing need for a pivot, but another German in Joshua Kimmich is also on their radar.

And they could potentially get good news on the Kimmich front if the midfielder decides not to renew with Bayern Munich.

While far-fetched, if Bayern Munich make a move for Wirtz, which Sky Sports Germany report that they are considering, they may be more receptive to letting Kimmich go.

However, the German outlet also state that Bayer Leverkusen know Wirtz’s value and have set an asking price of 120 million euros or upwards to ensure they get a fair deal for one of their best players, who they believe will leave eventually.

The player is tempted by Bayern, United also interested

When moving to clubs in Germany, any young player will be eyeing Bayern Munich, and such is the case for Wirtz as well.

The Bavarians are also very keen on acquiring him, but the high asking price is an issue even for them, and currently they do not have the appropriate space on their roster to incorporate him.

It could all depend on the departures of Jamal Musiala – who Real Madrid are very keen on – and potentially Kimmich, which would bring in a hefty amount of money and free up space on the wage bill.

Manchester United are also interested in Wirtz and are reportedly expected to make contact to enquire about him soon.

Barcelona could wait quietly in the wings

With Leverkusen estimating that Wirtz may stay with them till the end of the 24/25 season, that gives them time to potentially work miracles and improve their financial standing to try and move for him.

If not, they can capitalise on Bayern having to sell and acquire someone like Kimmich, who is one of their longstanding targets to reinforce the midfield.

The Catalans’ role in this saga will be that of a passive observer for quite some time, but in football you can never say never.
