Barcelona youngster Noah Darvich: “Messi has always been my idol”

Barcelona had a large delegation travelling to Indonesia earlier this month to participate in the FIFA U-17 World Cup.

A large chunk of the Blaugrana starlets crashed out of the tournament in the quarter-final stage when Germany downed Spain by a 1-0 margin, thus giving summer signing Noah Darvich and his side a spot in the semifinals.

The youngster’s team came out on top of Argentina in the semifinal that ensued, thus setting up for a grandstand final against France this weekend.

As the captain of Germany’s youth team, Barcelona’s Darvich has led from the front with one goal and four assists in six games.

In a recent interview with FIFA’s official website (h/t SPORT), the German prodigy elaborated on the impact his move to Barcelona had on his game among other topics.

Darvich stressed the fact that staying in Catalonia helped him mature both on and off the field and expressed his enthusiasm for growing as a footballer.

“I think so because it’s something completely new. I’m living alone for the first time and being away from home at first is difficult, but I think it gets better every week and that’s why I’m satisfied,” he said.

The youngster then went on to name the player he looked up to the most in the world of football. Unsurprisingly, he picked Barcelona’s greatest-ever player as his favourite and reasoned out the same, saying,

“Messi has always been my idol, because he is an incredible player and because he has a very good left foot like me. I would say that’s why I follow him a lot.”

Finally, Darvich was asked about how to was adapting to his role with the National Team, for he is the captain of Germany’s U-17 side and bears the brunt of leading from the front.

“I try to be myself. I try to talk a lot with the players, but always keeping myself and not pretending to be more: I try to help those who may need it,” he said.
