Three reasons that show why Marc Guiu is not a big loss for Barcelona – report

With Marc Guiu set to join Chelsea in a €6m deal, Barcelona are expected to explore market opportunities in order to improve the bench strength in Hansi Flick’s debut season at the club.

Keeping Guiu’s departure in mind, Flick will now have a big decision to make mostly because Vitor Roque also happens to have a market and losing the Brazilian would mean total reliance on a certain Robert Lewandowski.

Interestingly enough, while Guiu’s loss has been anticipated as a significant setback for Barcelona, a deeper look at the event explains why it could be a blessing in disguise in many ways.

Robert Lewandowski’s form under Hansi Flick

If there is anyone who can get the best out of Robert Lewandowski, it is none other than Flick.

During the duo’s time together at Bayern Munich, the striker scored 83 goals in just 71 games, averaging 1.16 goals per match.

During the 2020/21 season, Lewandowski notched 41 goals in 29 Bundesliga matches, which was the most goals that anyone has scored in a single Bundesliga campaign this century.

Flick’s familiarity with Lewandowski’s style and strengths will be crucial in ensuring the forward remains a top scorer for Barcelona.

A second chance for Vitor Roque

Roque’s tenure under Xavi was hard to watch, but with options limited, the Brazilian stands a chance to prove his worth and this is why the upcoming pre-season matches will be crucial for the young forward.

At present, Roque has several suitors. In fact, as reported before, the likes of FC Porto, Napoli and even Fiorentina have expressed interest, but Barcelona must now wait before sanctioning any sale.

With Guiu out of the club, the team has no clear replacement for Lewandowski and it is clear that they cannot rely entirely on the veteran throughout the season. This is where Roque can come into the picture.

Ferran Torres and Ansu Fati can be utilised

If Roque opts to move, Flick might have to make some adjustments within the roster. In that regard, it must be noted that the likes of Ferran Torres and Ansu Fati can be deployed as strikers in case of emergency.

Torres, another player who has a substantial market, does not want to move from Barcelona and his recent performance for the Spanish national team is only asserting his claim. If there is no place for him on the wings, he can act as a deputy for Lewandowski.

Lastly, Ansu still has a lot to prove but if everything goes well, he stands a chance to feature regularly under Flick.
