La Liga club president comments on Barcelona’s pursuit of key midfielder: “Don’t want to let any player go”

Speaking on Catalunya Radio’s Tot Gira programme (h/t Mundo Deportivo), Delfi Geli, the president of Girona, has commented on the rumours linking key midfielder Aleix Garcia to Barcelona.

The 26-year-old Spanish midfielder has emerged as Barça’s top target for the upcoming January transfer window, with the Catalans eager to strengthen their options in the centre of the park.

Garcia, for his part, has already professed his love for the Blaugrana, and has admitted he would welcome the chance of playing for the club.

With the reigning La Liga champions now showing interest in signing him, the Girona president was asked about the situation surrounding their key midfielder. In response, he said:

“In the end, there is only one clause that can make a player leave. With Aleix, as much as things were said and said, he is totally involved in the season and with our project. He is happy and will stay if there is nothing new.”

“There is no indication that it will be any different. In the market, many things can be talked about, but we don’t want to let any player go,” he added.

When quizzed about Barcelona’s reported interest in Garcia, Geli commented that he was unaware of that at this point, saying:

“I don’t know if it’s true that Barça want him. He is our player and that is what counts at the moment.”
