Barcelona make contact for 17-goal forward with €4.7 million-a-year salary

Just a while ago, we reported that Barcelona have set their sights on Getafe striker Borja Mayoral as a possible option to replace Vitor Roque if he leaves this summer.

The 19-year-old Brazilian has failed to make an impression in his first six months at Barcelona, partly due to a lack of opportunities under former manager Xavi Hernandez.

While the situation could change under Hansi Flick, at this point, the young striker’s exit is not ruled out. In that scenario, Barça are looking for cost-effective alternatives to replace him, with Mayoral emerging as one of them.

Barcelona already make contact

In fact, now Mundo Deportivo reports that Barcelona have already made contact to enquire about Borja Mayoral’s situation heading into the summer transfer window.

Mayoral finished the 2023/24 season with 15 goals in La Liga – the most by any Spanish player in the competition, while also netting two in Copa del Rey, taking his total to 17 goals from 31 matches.

If not for injuries, those numbers would have been higher and the striker could very well have been in the Spain squad for the Euros.

Formerly of Real Madrid, Mayoral now has a chance of joining their arch-rivals Barcelona if things fall into place.

For the moment, Barcelona have approached the player’s entourage to find out about his situation.

Borja Mayoral has a contract with Getafe that runs until the summer of 2027, with the striker earning a salary of €4.7 million per year – the highest at the club.

The number should not be a major issue for Barça despite their well-established FFP issues. However, negotiating a fee with Getafe could be tricky.

For now, there is nothing advanced and the only development is that the Catalans have asked about his situation with his entourage. The coming days will reveal if Barcelona decide to press ahead with their pursuit of Mayoral.
