Barcelona considering two options for their ‘final lever’ that will help with January signings

Barcelona president Joan Laporta seemed confident when talking about Barcelona’s chances of making transfers in January 2024.

“If we manage to have a fair play, the idea is to have a midfielder who somehow compensates for Gavi’s loss. It would be a transfer until the end of the season, as we did many years ago with Edgar Davids, for example,” he said.

We have a margin, I think that until the end of the year we can generate ‘fair play’, for a series of operations that we have underway and if they are confirmed, we would have options.”

One of the ways to generate margin in the FFP is, of course, to raise revenue through player sales. However, it seems unlikely that any player will leave Barça in the winter given the already thin squad.

The second is good old pulling the lever. And it seems the board is at it again, and is looking for options for Barça Vision, a vertical founded by Barcelona to venture into the business of digital assets like NFT.

Barcelona sold 49% of Barça Vision last year to Socios.com and Orpheus Media. However, the two companies found payments difficult, and the sale was relegated to Libero, who offered €40 million for 29.5% of their share alongside Nipa.

Libero were given a deadline of 15th December for the payment, and since it has not arrived, Barcelona are already studying more alternatives for the digital company.

Barcelona are in talks with two different investors for Libero’s half of 29.5%, and want to finalise a sale before the transfer window swings open as the club coaches have demanded a midfielder to cover for Gavi.

Further, it will also help the club gain FFP margin to register Vitor Roque, who will arrive at the club end of December, and can start playing as early as the game against Las Palmas on 4th January 2024.
