Barcelona attentive to the situation of former La Masia talent amid Girona and Atletico Madrid interest

With the summer transfer window a few months away, Barcelona have their hands full with several operations being planned to strengthen the squad.

At the same time, they are also keeping an eye out on any possible avenues to generate income and boost their coffers to aid them with their Financial Fair Play problems.

One such avenue that Barça are looking at is a possible profit from the transfer of a former player, who appears to be in demand in La Liga.

Barcelona watching Mika Marmol

Indeed, as per Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona are keenly watching former La Masia talent Mika Marmol, who currently plies his trade for Las Palmas, and is generating strong interest from multiple La Liga clubs, including Girona and Atletico Madrid.

Marmol left Barça for FC Andorra in 2022, with the Catalans still owning 50% of the player’s rights. Last year, he made the switch to Las Palmas, but the Blaugrana still retain 50% of his rights and any move in the upcoming summer would mean the club would be entitled to half the share of the fee.

Now, Girona have taken a serious interest in signing Marmol from Las Palmas in the summer. With a season in the UEFA Champions League likely coming up, Michel’s men are eager to add more options to their squad and see the left-footed defender as an ideal target.

Las Palmas are understood to be valuing Marmol at €30 million, and in case of a transfer, half of that would end up in Barça’s pockets. The Catalans believe that Girona might seek assistance from sister club Manchester City in pushing through the operation.

With Barça interested in signing Aleix Garcia from Girona, they could leverage the Marmol operation to get their target.

Atletico, Betis also keen

As mentioned earlier, apart from Girona, Atletico Madrid are also interested in Mika Marmol, while Real Betis have also taken a liking to the former Barcelona man. However, those two clubs would not be willing to spend much on the Spaniard’s signing.

Barcelona, for their part, like Marmol and have been happy with his development. However, re-signing him is not something that the club are looking to do for there is already a stockpile of central defenders in the squad.
